| There's nothing better than a trip on our
world famous Puffing Billy Railway at Belgrave, Victoria. Reliving some
of the experiences of the 1920's is a great way to
escape the reality of the 'Rat Race'. Someone once said that "even
if you win the race, you're still a rat!" Well we don't know about
that; but what we do know is that kids from from 2 to 92 have fun
on Puffing Billy as they travel though the Dandenong Ranges on this historic
steam train.
A day out on Puffing Billy is a great way to relax,
have fun and discard the stressors of modern life as you travel on this
working museum of the 1920's. You'll rattle your way through the
beautiful tree ferns and look down on the beautiful peaceful valleys.
Perhaps you'll take in some of the panoramic views around Menzies Creek
as you gaze at the distant horizon sometimes hiding Westernport and Port
Phillip Bays and the spectacle of Arthur's Seat.
So why not pack up the family and take them for
a relaxing ride on Puffing Billy and maybe even a picnic at Lakeside?
Puffing Billy was one of four experimental narrow gauge rail lines
and the line opened on 18th December 1900, being built by 150 men in 14
months at a cost of 54,000 pounds or $108,000. Today, it would not run
without the support of over 700 active volunteers involved in all
aspects of its operation.
VicTesters also support Puffing Billy where Murray is
a volunteer conductor. It's here we assist with passenger safety and
doing that little bit extra for our community. It's also a great way for
Murray to let his hair down and meet visitors from all over the world.
